At the request of the UIA , the jury meeting will be shifted from October 1-3 to October 8-9 2015. The other dates remain unchanged.

This Award is organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan and with support from the International Union of Architects. This is an open biennial award, in 1 stage. Participation is free of charge.

"INTERARCH – SOFIA", now a Triennial, is a well established activity of the world architectural society since 1981 and an internationally appreciated contribution to the integrity of the diverse field of architecture of contemporaneity. As a continuation of its traditional philosophy "INTERARCH 2015" is projecting the opening of an international forum for architects, designers, theoreticians and students from all over the world, exchanging ideas with leading masters of the profession and profiling a panorama of the tendencies and achievements of contemporary architecture.

From 29-30 September the 9th International Architectural Competition "Architectural Award- 2014" was organized in Georgia’s capital city Tbilisi. Works of Azerbaijani architects were also presented at the event. Among the winners awarded with the "Grand Prix" are House Museum of M.F.Akhundov, successful realization in Tbilisi fulfilled by the design firm "M-studio» under the guidance of Mrs. Ismayilova, and «Sheki Palace» Hotel designed by architect Rasim Babakishiyev.

The First Diploma passed to the design of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Cultural Center in Ankara, made in the company «El & En», by a team led by Honorary Architect of Azerbaijan Elbay Gasim-zada, architects Maksud Mammadov, Jahid Ali-Zadeh and Kamal Ibrahimov and interior of the Albanian church in the Nij village of the Gabala District, done by architect Elchin Aliyev.

In addition, a special diploma and "Gold Medal" of the Association of Architects of Georgia for strengthening the creative links between architects of our countries was awarded to Chairman of the Board of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan Elbay Gasim-zada.

On 3 November 2013 the Award ceremony of the First Baku International Architectural Award dedicated to the 90th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan with support of the International Union of Architects, was held in "Segah" Hall of "Four Seasons Hotel Baku".

Guests from our country and overseas, officials from the Unions of Architects representing Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Serbia, public and political figures gathered for the ceremony.

Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr Abulfaz Qarayev in his welcome speech noted that the present-day Azerbaijan architecture combines aspects of historical traditions and introduces modern tinges to the historical look of the country. As a result of construction carried out in last years a modern image of Baku is being formed and beautiful sites are provided for both local citizens and guests of our country. Such models of modern art as the Heydar Aliyev Centre, "Flame Towers" Complex as well as the International Mugham Centre and State Arts and Crafts Museum have emerged as modern symbols of Baku and took a rightful place among the most immense buildings in the world. It is not by a chance that the White City of Baku Project is considered to be one of the best urban planning projects in the world. The Minister stressed the importance of the First Baku International Architectural Award for which more than 300 projects from 30 countries had been submitted. The fact that the Jury of the competition was comprised of the world-renowned experts, and the number and quality of submissions is another confirmation of the importance of the event.

The registration deadline for the "Baku International Architectural Award – 2013" has been extended till 5 October 2013.

Goals and objectives

The main objective of the competition is to discover new ideas for: development and implementation of urban planning and architectural designs, more meaningful design of buildings and structures, search for composition, volumetric and spatial solutions; implementation of practical ideas to achieve the maximum diversity.
